About Me

Human-Computer Interaction + Design x Business x Technology

Hi, I’m Xi, currently working on a product idea with my friends (English Demo) during COVID-19. We want to provide more interesting and meaningful options to young people living in China off work. I just finished my internship at Ex)situ team in Inria, the French research institute for digital sciences. I worked on my Master's thesis to help parametric designers and generative artists explore their customized parametric space more easily. I find it interesting to make apparatus to facilitate their creative process, from an HCI perspective, as a complementary part to bridge the gap between their software tools and final work.

I also like the challenge of sorting out complex information systems to simplify the workflow for specialized users. Understanding the users' behavior in context and their thinking behind doing is always the key to any design. I value objective data collected from observations and interviews, as well as the power of empathy. I believe we can always put users in the center through any problem solving process.

Under the EIT program, we have an Innovation & Entrepreneurship minor, which helps us learn how to develop ideas into real world business and make revenue out of it. Business Model Canvas and Value Proposition Canvas are our most important tools, but customer validation is the foundation of everything. (Interestingly, this principle also coincides with user-centered design.)

Originally trained in Digital Media Technology and Software Engineering, my mindset has been turned upside down by HCI. I think it is a good turn. Now to me, technology should never intrude in the way of experience, but seamlessly integrated into it.
