Bus Rental
UI design / ToB & ToC apps / Management console
A traditional travel agency owning the contacts and resources of charter bus fleets wanted to digitalize their service onto a platform. They were also seeking new opportunities in the mobile Internet era and trying to start a new business with this digital platform. Popular apps like Uber and Didi reallocate the supply of resources according to instant demand: taxi drivers don't have to run on streets in idle to seek for passengers; neither do passengers have to wait for taxis passing by. While in tourism, charter bus fleets are contacted by travel agencies respectively. Why not reallocate these bus resources as well? It will be a more open market, and the usage ratio will increase.
Understanding collaboration of the 3 apps
It is not possible to design the apps individually without understanding the collaboration between one another.
Transforming offline business online
Through interviews I found their business at that time involved renting travel buses for tourists, renting vans for small groups of people travelling nearby, and renting vans for conference participants in the city. To understand each user group and scenario better, I started with personas and storyboards.
Prototyping
I started prototyping with wireframes to sort out workflows of each app in those 3 phases: “matching requests and resources”, “order execution and completion”, and “assessments for service provider and recipient”.
After walking through the 3 apps to make sure the whole workflow can be completed, I translated the wireframes into high-fidelity mockup.
